Nha Trang and Beyond
Da Lat was fun but we needed to figure out how we would continue our journey north, and the next logical step was Nah Trang which proved to be a vacation like beach destination. We got to stop along the way for some view photos which provided some pretty sweeping vistas.
The plan was to stay there one full day so that we could properly chill on the beach. Upon arrival, I was surprised to see google suggest a brewery to me. It was only a 15 minute walk away from our hostel and it appeared to be right on the beach. I ducked out from the crew and headed off to the brewery to try out some of the “Craft” beers of Nah Trang.
The location was ideal, but the beer was pretty standard, although I could not expect much from a random Vietnamese beach town. They had a taster of 4 and a total of 5 beers to choose from so I got all 5. The passionfruit wheat was my favorite as it provided the most unique taste experience vs all of the crappy lagers I have been having recently. I enjoyed the sun down and then headed back to the crew for some food. Ended up trying the Vietnamese take on Indian food and it was mediocre at best, although again, I can’t really expect much at this point.
The next day promised to be a solid chill day at the beach and it delivered. We arrived around noon and set up camp on the beach. One thing about Nah Trang that is very interesting is that it is a very famous Russian vacation spot so there were Russians everywhere and many of the signs and menus also have Russian translations. We people watched for a while and made sure to put on several helpings of sunscreen. I was in the water and got pummeled by a large wave and lost my sunglasses to the sea but other than that it was a great day.
At the end of the afternoon I noticed that I was pretty red despite several applications of sunscreen. The suncreen we were using was found in the hostel bathroom and I think it may have been defective, as I ended up getting very burnt. It might also have something to do with the fact that I was very white, but I think it was probably a combination of the two.
We ended up meeting up with the couple from Quebec City who was also in town and then continued the evening for drinks and russian food at a nearby cafe. I had Borsche soup which was really good. We had a few more drinks, danced with some Australian ladies and then headed to a nearby dance club. After a while of being there, I noticed that there was a pool and decided it would be a great idea to go for a swim. I ended up in a swimming pool, by myself at a club in Vietnam. It was pretty jokes to be honest.
The next day started a little bit later than expected but we ended up successfully making it to Quy Nhon, which was several hundred kilometers up the coast. Along the way there was a beautiful coastal road which allowed for beautiful scenery. That was my Nha Trang experience, next up is Quy Nhon and the Tet eve celebrations.
mmmmmm Borscht soup!
