The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg
I jumped on a flixbus from Brussels to Luxembourg and a short 3 hours on a bus and I was in my next country! The Grand Dutchery of Luxembourg.
I had heard a lot about the progressiveness of the country and was intrigued by their battery powered buses and how they charged and just after I visited, they were the first country to make their public transit completely free. At first glance, it was pretty cool and I was in a good mood!
I jumped off the bus and the hostel was a bit of a trek from the train station, so I decided to take a little walk around to check things out and find some food.
There is a gorge/river running throughout the city and the buildings were amazing. There were a bunch built right on the edge. I am struggling to accurately describe it appropriately.
I decided to check into the hostel and then go for a short run to check things out.
I am just going to post a lot of photos for this post because i really spent most of my time walking around and exploring.
There wasn’t a heck of a lot to do but to explore to be honest, so that’s what i did.
I found a brewery in my wanders and despite it being a bit too commercial for my liking it did have decent german style lager.
In that same complex there was a tech sector bunch of buildings with all of the big names included. There was a Google, Microsoft and Amazon office there and a lot of people speaking English. I tried to find some information about why Luxembourg had offices for all of these global companies but i would assume it has something to do with taxes.
I then explored the Casemates du Bock which are a cave system in the walls that acted as a bomb shelter during the war.
It was pretty cool exploring in there.
In the morning I woke up and went for a 23km run to explore the majority of the city.
The coolest part of the run was the free pedestrian elevator that brought pedestrians up from the bottom of the valley up to the city.
I enjoyed walking and running around Luxembourg, it was a beautiful place although from a tourist perspective not all thaaat interesting.
Onwards and upwards to FRANCE!
