Glasgow Scotland – Museums galore

My general schedule for the UK and Ireland was 2 weeks in England, 1 week in Scotland and then 2 weeks in Northern Ireland and Ireland.  I was open to changing this plan if necessary, but so far it was working out ok.  After spending two weeks in England, it was time to head into Scotland and the first stop there was Glasgow!

I arrived in Glasgow in the early afternoon and was staying at the same Hostel as Evan, who i had met in Manchester.  I checked in and freshened up a bit then headed out to check out one of the recommended museums located within Glasgow University called the Hunterian Museum, named after a rich collector who donated his collection to start the museum.

The museum had an incredibly varied collection because the rich guy liked to collect a little bit of everything and the museum showed it.  I didn’t take many photos of the exhibits, so you get just an overview shot.

After the museum we headed to the innis and gun bar nearby as we wanted a beer and this was the most “craft” place we could find nearby.

I then have this picture of the food we had, but i can honestly not remember where we had this.  The GPS on the photo is still not helping me remember.  I am pretty sure it was a kebab place.

After food, we went to a bar across the street for a beer and then headed back to the hostel where we ended up just chatting with the groups that were there for most of the evening.

Day 2 in Glasgow was wander day which involved lot’s of walking around and a few sites.  Things started with a general wander of the city.

First stop post wander was the lighthouse museum which honestly didn’t have any memorable exhibits (mostly architecture which I am not as big of a fan of) however, they did have a great view from the top of their tower.  I headed up the cool staircase for a great view of the city.

The view was 360 degrees and had a great view of the building tops and taller spires of the city.

Wandering continued and I eventually stumbled on the major park which had a musuem in the middle of it.  It had a small greenhouse and some exhibits on the history of Glasgow and how the people have evolved over time.

It was then time to re-hydrate after an afternoon of wandering and luckily there was a brewery nearby the park.  It was called WEST and it had a pretty nice patio, and since the sun was shining i decided to have a beer or two on the patio while reading my book.

The next logical step on my wandering of the afternoon was ANOTHER BREWERY.  This one was more of a macro brewery and the tour was paid and was not as interesting to me.  So i had a taste of some of the beers that were none standard in their catalouge and continued on with my afternoon.  This one was for sure a check mark brewery and I had no interest in spending a lot of time there.

The next stop on my wander happened to be…. you guessed it….. another brewery.  This one was located directly beside Tenants and was also a decently impressive facility.  It was called Drygate and they had an impressive lineup of beers.

After a flight at drygate, it was time to continue wandering and what did I end up finding?  Well a Tim Hortons of course!!!  I had to go in and get something (and since I was a bit hungry, gave the food a try)

After the Timmy’s stop, it was time to get serious and find some pinball in Glasgow.  Turns out there is an arcade bar in town with two pinball machines and so I had to go to check them out!  The place was called Super Bario and despite it’s advertising as an arcade bar, there selection was a little disappointing.

after a few games of pimball it was time to move on to the next stop which was a look at the sunset and then some food.

After a short break a the hostel and a few people joining, we headed out for the evening to a bar street nearby.  We found a place with live music and decent beer.

The next place we went was a bar upstairs and had dancing downstairs.  By the end of the night we found ourselves downstairs and I realized I had not yet taken my mom i’m ok photo yet.  So I convinced everyone in the bar downstairs to pose for a group photo with my sign despite not really knowing many of the people in the bar.  It was a great time all around.

The next morning it was time to check out of my hostel and head to Edinburgh.
